How do I get collectors off my back?

Answered By Sophia Caylar, Editor

If the collectors are using means that can be deemed as harassment and are being deceptive, you can write a letter of cease and desist to make them stop. Make sure to send this letter by certified mail with a request for a return receipt. According to federal law, they should stop calling you then and should just provide one written reply informing you of either they will stop calling you, or take legal steps as well. Don't worry, most collection agencies don't sue.
